Miss Spider would like to invite you for tea but she only has one cup and one saucer. No problem! She'll show you how to make your own cup and saucer using a loop of string. And afterwards, she'll show you how to make a star.
To prepare the right-sized string for you, wrap a length of string or yarn around your thumb and elbow. Tie the ends together and cut off any excess thread.
Making the cup and saucer
-
Join your left thumb and pinky and hang the string on them.
-
Join your right thumb and pinky and use them to hook the other side of the string. Spread your fingers to tighten the string.
-
Slip your right index finger under the string on your left hand. Slip your left index finger under the string on your right hand. Pull your hands apart.
-
With your thumbs, reach over the first two strings and grab the third string from below. Spread your fingers. Press your thumbs together and move them under and over the very front string. Release the string on your pinky fingers. Now you have a cup and saucer, and you can enjoy Miss Spider's tea !

Making the star
-
Start with the cup and saucer. Move your hands closer together to loosen the string. At the bottom of the cup where it sits on the saucer, you'll see a small loop. Slide your pinky fingers into the loop. Spread your fingers to tighten the string.
-
Release the strings on your thumbs.
-
With your thumbs, reach over the first two strings and grab the third string from below. Spread your fingers.
-
Release the string on your right pinky and voilà ! Adjust the star.
